Comics: New Releases and Publications

Well, in the Greek comic market lately we've got some exciting news! I don't know where to start Popeye, Disney, Bleck, Little Sheriff? Well, let's go take a look.

I think I'll start with my favorite theme, Disney. Well, I recently saw in National Library, where journals, volumes and other publications are listed, something very interesting. Kathimerini had listed 24 new volumes of the Disney Library, which has stories of Carl Barks. They had already been released by Terzopoulos, but again by Kathimerini, 16 volumes with stories of the great Barks. It was not entirely certain that Kathimerini would continue the volumes. Of course, they had said to wait for an official announcement, which we are still waiting for, but also the volumes were very successful in the world. Many persons wish to complete this great project.

where they will probably reprint, in two places, the first volume of the Library of Floyd Gottfredson, published by the New Ray!

It should be pointed out that, in Terzopoulos' last interview with Giannis Doctor in the Journal of the Editors, we learned that New Ray had already prepared Flood's second volume, which gives us hopes to see him from Kathimerini. Another new one is Carl Barks' return to COMIX with Central history which has never been published in COMIX. But, we'll discuss this in detail at the presentation of COMIX #8.

The reason now for the Little Sheriff, the top Western magazine, who returned a few days ago to the stands. A historical magazine that, along with the new issue, has already gathered 1470 issues full of Western stories. The new issue has 68 pages and a price of 2.90€. This is the second publishing effort of Comics & Crosswords by Mr. Leocrates Anemodoras, and let us hope it goes as best as possible. If the sales go well, we'll see the magazine, logically, every month on the stands.

The fifteenth issue of New Bleck was released on the stands a week ago. Magazine with 164 pages and another fine effort in the field of Greek comic books. Of course, the magazine has some flaws, such as Slovenian cover models with a Bleck unrecognizablely designed, delay in distribution, lack of color in Zagor's stories. However, to continue, it will need all the support of the people who like Bleck, but also to become better in the future.

Τέλος, άλλη μια ακόμη πρόσφατη προσπάθεια και νέα κυκλοφορία είναι η επιστροφή του Ποπάυ, που δίνεται μαζί με τον «Τηλεθεατή» του κ. Δραγούνη. Το πρώτο τεύχος κυκλοφόρησε στις 29 Ιανουαρίου. Πρόκειται για το “Land of Jeeps”, που κυκλοφόρησε από την IDW στις 25 Απριλίου του 2012. Ο καλλιτέχνης, που επιστρατεύτηκε, προκειμένου να «πιάσει» το ύφος των Elzie Crisler Segar και Bud Sagendorf από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’20, ήταν ο Bruce Ozella. Η επιστροφή του Ποπάυ στα κόμικς ήταν πάρα πολύ επιτυχημένη, με την IDW να χτυπάει φλέβα χρυσού, αφού η μεγάλη αγάπη των αναγνωστών τους ώθησε να εξαντλήσουν σε χρόνο ρεκόρ τα διαθέσιμα τεύχη. Μόνο αρνητικό, κατά κάποιο τρόπο, στοιχείο είναι αυτό των λίγων σελίδων (24 σελίδες συνολικά). Όμως, πολύ σημαντικό είναι ότι (επανα)σχεδιάζεται ένας ήρωας κόμικς με ιδιαίτερη παρουσία δεκαετιών, σχεδόν 30 χρόνια μετά την αναστολή έκδοσής του. Μεγάλη είδηση (και αυτή) και το 2012 επανήλθε στην Αμερική, με τρία χρόνια διαφορά από την κυκλοφορία του στη χώρα μας. Το δεύτερο τεύχος (“The worm returns”) κυκλοφορεί την Παρασκευή 6 Μαρτίου, πάντα με τον «Τηλεθεατή», με τιμή 1,50 ευρώ. Εάν πάει, πάντως, η απόπειρα αυτή καλά, θα δούμε ξανά τον ναύτη, που κατάπινε σπανάκι και αυτόνομα στα περίπτερα.

Αυτά, λοιπόν. Όπως παρατηρήσατε, έχουμε πιο πολλά νέα και ανάλυση στη Ντίσνεϋ, και αυτό διότι, όπως είπα, έχω στα περιοδικά αυτά μια αδυναμία.
