Let's start over. ..

And unfortunately it's true. But let's start over.

The magazine Phantom: His New Adventures Phantom Duck was first released in 2012 by the New Ray in smaller size as opposed to the Italian version, fewer pages and no additional stories. A total of 64 pages and is the Greek edition of the Italian series PKNA.

The magazine's price was 1.80 and after some time it went to 2,000 euros. From New Ray only issued the first 16 issues of the series since as we know the publishing closed in 2013 resulting in a failure to complete the publication.

In 2014 Disney publications returned under Kathimerini.

The Phantom made the surprise and instead of releasing again from the beginning was the only magazine that continued since its old numbering. And so came the series with issue #17.

Of course, it came back very dynamically with many important improvements such as the largest size that is now near the Italian version, more pages with the inclusion of additional stories, as a poster inside the issue was the corresponding cover.

The increase in price

And the best of all this? The price! It became 1.90 i.e. cheaper (or slightly more expensive as one gets) than the previous version of New Ray. The benefits were so much in turn now to be at high levels. Personally, in the last year I considered it the best edition of Kathimerini. Because she was stable in her quality and economics. That's the opposite of the 2016 COMIX.

But the problems began last month with issue #44 having a price increase of around 30% that went to 2.50 euros. This in itself created questions and some bad thoughts. I mean, the show wasn't going well. All right, there's 10-12 issues left, so let's just fatten the magazine's price increase for a while. Finally, 10 days before the release of the #45 issue of the magazine we suddenly see in the Daily Journal for Disney publications in November and December that the Phantom is missing.

The answer of the Daily...

At first, one could assume that they forgot to put it as it is not the first time that they have made such a mistake. But it looks like the Phantom's out. subscriptions that Kathimerini had for Disney Magazines. This showed us that the omission was not a mistake but we still did not have any official indication of the interruption of publication. We learned from the answer that Kathimerini sent to Kriton of Comicsloft that unfortunately, This title was discontinued due to low releases. It's too bad the show is closing without being completed. There was only one year left to complete it. Ever since I read it, I've been wondering things...

Conclusions

  1. Only one month have sales dropped with the price increase?
  2. Even if it was the price increase experiment again only within a month they reached a decision?
  3. Is it the weird plan that attracted people?
  4. What's more, is that unlike Almanac it's a series of sequels? Almanako had autonomous stories with Phantom Duck and generally that's the Disney style.
  5. Maybe the show wasn't advertised properly?
  6. Even that without the Phantom there remains more time for other publications.

Questions, questions... Finally, as far as Phantom is concerned, it makes me very sad that it was over because it was very close to completion and that since Kathimerini took over the magazine had found its right course. I hope that because the remaining issues are few that we may see it again in the future. Maybe we'll see those stories in an Almanac that maybe he'll think about putting in the magazines sometime? It wouldn't be so bad...

Beyond the closure of Phantom this event may show us other things like:

  • If Kathimerini sees a title that doesn't go well, then she'll stop him. Of the four titles left that I believe can greet us then is Donald.
  • Is there a problem with publishing? Can the rest of the Disney editions still thrive?
  • Changes in price can be made any moment now if the title is in trouble. Well, I don't think that sticks to Mickey Mouse and COMIX because they're already at their maximum price. Especially the COMIX.

The interruption of Phantom therefore has a general impact. Let's hope the best for publications in the future and never see anything like it again.
