Presentation and review of the oneshot duo manga of the French Senchiro, we met at AnimeCon: RUN Thessaloniki VI!

The kind of manga

It's the manga of the French Senchiro, we met in AnimeCon: RUN Thessaloniki VI! According to him, this particular story was his first attempt at a romance story and without dialogue. Beyond the plan, this particularity of manga is to be «mute» It's something that's been interesting since the beginning. They say «a picture equals a thousand words» And in such a species does emotion matter! Did Senchiro manage to get us this through his plan? Let's go see.

What's going on in history?

The plot, of which you can read a summary in English below, is quite formal. The protagonist sees star Melissa every day at the railway station, but is shy and does not speak to her. On the other hand, Melissa is absorbed in her skateboard and is constantly planning. The protagonist's goal is to draw her attention by displaying his run.

He runs, she makes art. Every day at the train station, their paths cross. He gaze at her, she’s absorbed by her skatebook.

Too shy to speak, he will run until he gets her attention...

The plot summary may not interest you, but I think you should give her a chance. I'll mention some more things, so they'll follow. some spoiler.

The enthusiastic protagonist trains intensively to catch the train in any case, so that he draws attention by entering the same car as Melissa. With perseverance and patience he does this several times showing us some funny situations at a time. On the other hand, Melissa, while she seems to be at a standstill in the project, begins to be inspired and influenced by these efforts. So much that at some point he designs the protagonist himself and blushes.

The protagonist is ready for an official track match, while Melissa for the final exams. Unfortunately, when she goes to see the results at her school she does not see him at the station as she expects and again has not achieved her goal. PlayOn the way back by train, she is ready to throw away her skateboard when she meets the injured protagonist.

And he on his side failed because he injured his knee. Melissa explains the situation to him and follows a beautiful scene, where the protagonist not only recounts his effort, but, in a sense, confesses his feelings. Then Melissa, she reveals her plan to him. They both blush and enter the train car happy.

Characters

I liked that each of the two characters has a goal and is struggling for him. The protagonist wants Melissa to notice him, while the second tries to get into the design school after her failures. The development of the protagonist where through his persistence and patience he became faster, was teaching. It shows how important it is to have a target and not give up.

The design style

Once I sprung that particular manga, I confess that Senchiro's plan drew me right away. It takes advantage of the fact that history is in manga format (i.e. black and white), meaning that it knows how to use tone and shadows well. And the way the characters are designed has Japanese influences but the style is special and you understand immediately whose it is.

I think it is clever that history has no dialogue, because anyone can read it. There's no language restriction, while the plan is so good it's like it's talking on its own. This means that the designer correctly attributed the emotions of heroes, which is essential in this case. One of my favorite scenes is the flashbacks.

Summary

In conclusion, within about 40 pages, Senchiro manages to tell a nice silent romantic story. The version I bought also gives bonus material with blueprints and character design profiles. I enjoyed her reading and I fairly believe February 2023 took the lead in the monthly awards of Manga Plus Creators.
