COMIX #23 which is another issue with a republished history of Don Rosa, "His Majesty Scrooge McDuck". The cover should normally have been used in the first period... The structure of the issue is like that of previous issues of 2016.
Twenty-third COMIX has total, 7 stories. Let's go take a look at them.
The first story "His Majesty Scrooge McDuck" has 28 pages.
Summary:
Uncle Scrooge finds an old sign that proves that the Fortress of Limnoupoli and by extension the Carnage Hill was never really part of the US. Trying to get money back from the return of fifty years of taxes, Scrooge declares himself king of Macdacoland with disastrous results.
Another story I've read several times. Don't forget that we have seen Rosa's story in the 1998 COMIX (since 2004) of the First Period with a different cover. Rosa takes small pieces of Barks' stories together and makes a wonderful story of his own. I love Scrooge (especially in the end) as history shows us that his obscene gain can sometimes make him lose everything. In the end, a more emotional aspect of the character emerges.
For the above, I'll add one. 9,5-10/10.
The second story is "Dangerous safari".
Summary:
Donald and the nephews visit a amusement park full of wild animals. It won't be long before they find out it's a front for the sale of stolen goods.
We begin now with the secondary stories of the issue. History from Vicar's pen found it the second best story in the magazine with a huge difference. I found the plot in some places smart and stupid at the same time. I'm talking about the acting victims who were forced to play a special role in history... Animals could well be robots rather than disguised people. As an idea, I didn't find it so good but also unrealistic... Still after some point the bad guy was very predictable. The plan was pretty good. We'll put one on. 6,5–7/10!
The third story is "The Marvelous Bait".
Summary:
Horatio and Mickey have gone fishing and they don't catch a scale because of their bait which is not attractive to fish at all. A fisherman learns their problem and confides in them the recipe for an amazing bait that fish cannot resist.
As we've been accustomed to lately, COMIX has reached Van Horne's story... Which, as usual, is the worst and most ridiculous of the issue... And this time apart. The plan sucks while the only reason I'm going to grade is the moral lesson of history. Well, that story isn't about COMIX. One of the worst stories I've ever read with Mickey. While Mickey Mouse is getting great stories with the mouse, the COMIX gets fourth-rate stories.
We'll use it. 3,5-4/10.
The fourth story is "The Kiss of Fortune".
Summary:
Magica manages to steal Gastone's luck and blackmails him: To give him back his fortune, he demands that he deliver his uncle's penny to her.
The idea is good, but it's not being performed properly, and I found the plan mediocre. A story that would have Magica stealing Gastone's luck would have been wonderful if he showed us the devastating consequences if he targeted Scrooge and the vault. With the right creator, we'd have a great story.
So, 5,5/10.
The third story is "The Battle of Barbecue".
Summary:
Donald bakes steaks and Mr. Jones is annoyed by the smoke that his neighbor's grill makes. The battle has just begun!
The simplest Donald-Jones showdown I've ever seen in all respects. And scriptural and design. The plan was very simple while the script was what we've seen so many times without any but no originality. I think the story would have been better if he had gotten into Super Mickey.
One, 5/10 And it is.
The sixth story is "The Treasure of the Sea".
Summary:
The nephews searching for a pirate's treasure and discovering the thefts of the Moors!
The only different thing about history is that only nephews are starring, which is rare but generally nothing special. Rota's plan is pretty bad than what we're used to in his older tens... And the script is very flat... There's nothing that will make you read the story and then remember it. She's just one of the ones Rota designed and nothing more.
One 5,5/10 I think that's enough.
Seventh story is "The Butterfly Effect".
Summary:
How can a minor incident dramatically change the flow of events that will follow?
Smart idea but "childly" executed and mediocre plan. I like the idea that the smallest thing can have big chain reactions, but here it is very simply executed as we mentioned before. And with the social worker and the cake under whose plate Donald had his name on the order... Or that Scrooge goes out to the country and takes with him is a bag of dollars... In general, history does not do us both by coincidence and by some facts that are a bit invalid.
One 5,5-6/10 So for the story…
COMIX #23 is ultimately the worst in the series by little difference. We'll do the above. 5,5/10 as an issue. If it wasn't for Rosa personally, I'd consider it the worst issue of COMIX I've ever read. Rosa has a weight in the 2016 issues but still not enough if the rest of the stories that make up the issue are not good. Still, something else that contributes to the negative score of the issue is that COMIX has come to have articles only about Rosa's story and no other story has any article... Not that it's worth having but So one of the basic elements is lost that differentiated COMIX from other magazines like Mickey Mouse. Personally, I think it's very bad.

As for the next COMIX, since my review of issue 23 was very late, you will read in my review of issue 24 some things I would say here.
Finally, COMIX continues the downward course that had begun since January 2016. No improvement five issues in the accompanying stories. And from what things show, issues like COMIX 1, 11, 17 and 18 will take some time to see...
According to the above... What do you think?
