The «Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde» (original title: Lo strano caso del Dottor Ratkyll e di Mister Hyde) is a Disney parody of the work of classical literature of the same name, created by the duo Bruno Enna and Fabio Cheloni in 2014 for Topolino magazine (#3070-71).
The different style
This is quite an interesting story, but, under no circumstances, it is not the usual Disney comedy story that one expects to read. The main reasons are as follows:
- The style of the story is quite serious, with evidence of Gothic terror and several violent scenes. Characteristics Goofy in many pages shakes an axe, while the story begins with him breaking a door with it to break into a building and ask threateningly «Where is he?»
- Ducks, mice etc. are all part of the Victorian England society and blend in imaginative ways. Goofy hangs out with him. Fethry, the Mickey It conflicts ideologically with the Cyrus…
- Goofy is the main protagonist, while he and Donald They largely escape the usual contexts of their personality.
- The story was also released in a special black and white version, which fits perfectly with its design and style.
Project & Script
Apart from the fact that this story stands out for Fabio Cheloni's atmospheric design and the extremely lively scenes, the basic «key» to open the door to the world of classical horror literature held in his hands by Bruno Enna that takes it off scriptically and makes it original.
And this «key» It is but the contradictory nature inherent in all people. In Stevenson's original work, it is the coexistence of Good and Evil within each man as two separate personalities... Personalities, which Dr. Jekyll, through his research, is trying to separate.
Bruno Enna rejected as an idea the contrast of Good and Evil for his history, as it had become infinite times before. Instead, he considered that the element that makes the Disney universe complex and interesting are his characters, choosing to replace the coexistence of Good and Evil with... Rats and Ducks!
And a duck... And mice...
In the world of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Rats and Ducks coexist, but everyone agrees that the two species (the word «Species» They are completely different from each other and are not connected in any way.
All but few «heretics» scientists... including Dr. Jekyll. The diversity between the worlds of the Rats and the Ducks could not be better emphasized by comparing the logical, restrained and good Mickey with the spontaneous and irritable Donald!

Translation peculiarities
It is worth noting that with a reading of Dr. Jekyll & Lord Hyde notices that the terms are widely used «mouse» and «duck», an element common in the original texts of Italian stories. Greek translators treat these words rather as taboos, as they are never used (as far as I know) to identify Mickey, Donald and their surroundings. The use of these terms has a reason for existence above in this history. It is therefore surprising how translators will manage this story if it is ever time for it to be published in our country.
