Past Without a Future
The Story «Past Without a Future» was first published in Italian Topolino #2933 in 2012, and was also released in our country, four years later, in Mickey Mouse #98 (Period II).
The Story
An unexpected journey by Phantom Duck in the 1920s and, in particular, in the evening of the reception in which Dolly Duck fatally met Fantomia and decided to live with him his adventures, cancels this meeting. That same night, Dolly had urged the thief aristocrat to keep a diary, thanks to which, decades later, Donald would learn all the secrets of his predecessor and decide to adopt Fantom Duck's new, secret identity. Now, Phantom must recruit all his forces to save the past and ensure that there is a future with him.
Summary
It is a story of time travel, where the presence of the protagonist in the past threatens to erase the future, but it is more than that. Besides, it is the story that first introduces the faces behind the masks of Fantomia and Dolly Paprika, although in Greece we already knew them through Fantomia's series, which is later, while we witness the first acquaintance of the couple. Perhaps, however, the most interesting thing about this story is the interaction of the two worlds, this Fantomy and this Phantom Duck.
Script
The «Past Without a Future» It's a scripted one of Marco Gervasio's finest stories. He manages to bring Phantom Duck in the past and affect the future of the aristocrat thief, never interacting with him.
He thus gives the hero moments at which he must make critical decisions and act intelligently, without hesitation.
These make Phantom quite similar to his predecessor, however, without omitting the evidence inherent to Donald, such as oblivion.
Project
Also, the design does not go back, while the color distinction of the past from the present is interesting. Specifically, the piece of history unfolding in the 1920s has the same slightly weakened colors that Fantomia's series stories have, which enhance the sense that the heroes of history move and act in a younger historical era.
Summary
In conclusion, it is the last atmospheric early story before Marco created the official series «Fantomia – The exciting adventures of an aristocrat Loupote». A series that we first met through the pages of the COMIX of the new period and we now read from time to time on the Mickey Mouse pages.
