The Story «And so it all started» was first published in Topolino #3316 in 2019, while in our country, in Mickey Mouse #522 (Period II).
50 Years Phantom Duck
For me, history achieved its purpose which was to celebrate in a special way 50 Years of Phantom Duck. He cleverly showed us the contribution of Fantomia, who acts in the background, to the creation of Phantom. This modernizes and enriches classical history without altering it.
Script
Fantomia's scenes were harmoniously bound to the original and we had several important interactions with Donald. Fantomias pulls the strings at various points, because he helps or guides Donald. It was interesting how Marco focused on certain details. Fantomia commented not only on the fact that Donald did not wear a mask, but also had the same thoughts when he stole Scrooge's mattress. All of this works like a test he's put on Donald to see if he's worthy of his continuation.
On the other hand, Donald did not use the other masks (of Scrooge and Gastone), as in the original. Gervasio rightly used Scrooge's Palace, instead of the Treasury, which we have also seen in Barks' stories. Of course, after the new story, I went with enthusiasm and reread the original, «The Secret of the Villa of the Roses». The Greek translation into the Great Cyril mentioned the vault instead of the mansion, but the original Italian text could solve the question.
Drawing & Coloring
As far as drawing and coloring are concerned, they are at good levels both. Coloring is modern and makes sense, considering that we are not in Fantomia's time. My favorite frame is the last to close the story with him. Lord Quackett full of excitement.
Summary
In conclusion, we have a story with a nice script, which acts as a tribute, bringing Phantom closer to Fantomia. We're learning some interesting details about Fantomy's withdrawal, the fact that he's been watching Donald, etc. I'd like to have a few more pages, but generally I'm happy.
